Top Gear's James May drove Arctic Trucks' super modified Toyota Hilux to the North Pole, driving on not so thin ice in the most extreme conditions on earth. Or can you get more extreme?
Yes you can. Eh, well, maybe you can't, but James May did it anyway. He took the now legendary modified Toyota Hilux and asked the wizards at Arctic Trucks to make it ready for an even bigger challenge. This time, it's not about the coldest place on Earth but the hottest. Lets say ... around 1200°C! Let's add on that raining fire balls made of pure melted magma coming straight from the center of the Earth. It doesn't get much more extreme than that, does it?
A picture from Arctic Trucks' twitter stream in April.
So that's exactly what James got. He went to Iceland, the homeland of Arctic Trucks who built the car and drove up to the infamous Eyjafjallajokull volcano (maybe that's why the mountain got so mad and started spewing ash all over the UK ...).And now, we've got the first footage of that amazing challenge. Even the 1.000 horsepower Bugatti Veyron blinks in comparison to driving on a multi billon horsepower volcano!
Wouldn't he catch fire driving on something that's 1200°C you might ask? - Sure he would, wouldn't he ...
You'll just have to see for your self:
Now that's cool!
Update: I found to extra clips that were not included in the program that I'm going to share with you. The first one is James May cooking on hot lava rocks. Don't if he's much of a cook, but ...
And James May teaching us all about tire pressure before heading on to the glaciers:
ps. remember to vote for us :)
The most inspiring thing I've seen in a long time! It's funny to see how much people were complaining about the air travel chaos but to see something like that actually doing it's thing seems to make it all worthwhile. They have a lot to live up to on their next big challenge http://www.soundandvision.co.uk
